Plano show

My husband and I will get to go to the show this coming weekend in Plano, Tx. There is a large list of “open house” sites. Does anyone have a suggestion of which ones are “must does” as we won’t have time to make very many and see the show too.

Thank you, Diane

Welcome to the forums.

If no one here can help you, go to the show first. Have some idea what you would like to see most: a certain scale, city scenes, rugged mountains, operations, compact layouts or whatever you might like to specify for the “main” element you’d like to see. Then go the booth or layout of a local group and ask them for some guidance.

Good luck,

Richard

Thank you, Richard, for you speedy reply. We are very new to the hobby and are “looking” to learn. We have our tables built, mountain material gathered, books, books and more books bought but need to SEE stuff before we jump in. We have read many items on this forum and learned a lot, I think!!!? Of course, we want to do it all - perfectly - the first time.

Sounds like you are on the right track, learning before going ahead full steam. (Whow, 2 puns in one sentence.)

Learning is an on going process. When you start doing things, your skills will improve. When you get all the way around the layout, your skills will be much better than when you started, thus things won’t look so perfect as they did at the start. This is a normal progression. You will also find out about new products that can make your methods better.

Most folks never concider their layout truely finished. They go back and redo scenes because their skills are better. They redo things because they have found a new building or such that they want on their layout. They continually add detail. Even the best seem to do this regularly.

Do a nice job when you start, but expect that your improved skills will make it so you can do better when you choose to.

Have fun,

Richard
