Plans firm up for new Raleigh station
There are four THROUGH Amtrak trains at Raleigh, but the state-supported Piedmont service also originates and terminates two round-trips between Raleigh and Charlotte at this station.
That would be four daily train PAIRS: the Star, the Carolinian, and two Piedmont pairs.

i wonder what they will do to the other station.
i wonder what they will do to the other station.
What’s wrong with the present station? Couldn’t they have done anything at all with it?
where will the new station be in relation to the present station?
What a waste of Federal taxpayers money for an average of only 527 total Amtrak passengers a day. No wonder this country is going broke.
I believe they need a new station because the current one doesn’t fit plans for renewal of direct route between Raleigh and Richmond. You’d have to back out of the station…
I live in Raleigh and use the station quite often. It is very small for the amount of traffic it sees, and there are only parking spaces for about 30 or so cars. Yes, we definitely need a new station. The new station will be 2 blocks north of the current station.
The current station needs parking otherwise a remodeling would save millions
Growth of passenger traffic out of the exisiting Raleigh station is like a growing kid who has busted his britches. Also. I’ve heard there were pals to locate Greyhound there as well, as the current bus station is not an ideal place to be at. Relocating the depot to serve planned restoration along the former SAL route is a major step in the right direction. Living in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, I long for a return of the Champion along this route as well.
