I am getting ready to plant some Grand Central Gems lodgepole pines, and I am wondering how to do it. I am thinking about drilling a hole in the trunk and inserting a cut-off nail to push into the foam scenery. Is there a better way I am overlooking?
Not sure how the base of those trees are shaped. If they are reasonably long and straight you could poke an appropriate size hole in the foam, apply a little glue in the hole and push the trunk down in. If they have a formed base, I’ve heard of many folks doing what you are suggesting.
Good luck,

I like your way. I’ve got several Grand Central trees, and the trunks are ‘finished’ enough that they look better if you use the nail method, instead of forcing them into holes in the foam scenery.

It was fairly easy to drill out the trunks for a cut off nail. I used a drop of CA in the hole before pushing the nail in place. The hardest part was keeping the drill perfectly centered in the trunk, but I found a slight angle is better – If the hole in the foam is a little off center, rotating the tree can make it straight upright.
