Plaster freezing

My layout room (ok, garage) is heated with a wood stove. I only have a fire in the stove when I’m out there, primarily only on weekends. The the rest of the time it’s usually pretty close to freezing out there.

I’m just about ready to plaster the contours of my terrain. I might use plaster cloth or drywall mud over fiberglass screen (I haven’t decided which).

Has anyone had problems with plaster/drywall mud freezing before it cures? Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

I would think that allowing it to get too cold while is sets might not be good, but letting it get cold while it cures should have little effect. If anything, the cooler temps will mean that evaporation will be retarded, so it will stay moist longer which will improve the curing. On the other hand, mold or mildew may take advantage of the moisture.

Keep it above freezing while it sets up and in the early part of cure. If there`s too much moisture in it, it can freeze and flake.

I would experiment to see how long you have to wait.
