plaster

Hi everyone

Was wondering if anyone has any experience using Burma Casting Plaster for scenery for dipping cloth into and laying over weaved cardboard strips , making harf and wet molds and that sort of thing? I’ve generally only used plaster of Paris but I’m down in Toronto area and Curry’s is close by and the Burma casting plaster is what they carry. I can go to another place where they sell other makes but really its out of the way. Also Curry’s carry’s the plaster cloth at a great price. I need about 100 lbs of plaster to start with and in my home town they only carry very small bags.

Thanks

I’m not familiar with the name Burma Casting plaster, but we use U. S. Gypsum 20 minute casting plaster all the time on our large HO scale layout for scenery in exactly the way you’re thinking of.

Casting plaster is the same stuff that is on that Woodland Scenics and other brands of plaster-impregnated cheesecloth. It’s original purpose was for body casts for broken bones.

We purchase it at Home Depot as a 120 pound bag, which is probably way more than you will ever use.

Well I went by Curry’s today and it was 40 bux for 50 lbs. I passed. I have a place to go tomorrow and can get it at a 1\4 the price, so tomorrow will get 50 lb of tuf stone and 50 lb of pop. I did pick up some great priced plaster cloth from Curry’s.
