Plasticville makes a coal tower for O scale. However, I have seen an upgrade kit offered for this that extends the roof up to house the conveyer system.Making the structure higher. There is some modifications you need to do such as cutting the old roof line to accept the kit version. Has anyone seen this done or know of a source for the upgrade kit?

I just finished building one of the “topper” kits for the Bachmann coaling tower. I don’t have alot of experience building laser cut wood kits, but it wasn’t too bad. My biggest concern was cutting the top of my coaling tower since it was already glued together. I cut the top off with a dremel and a cutting wheel, no problems. The topper was a bit of a tight fit to get it on evenly over top of the Bachmann, but other than that it was pretty easy. They give you some self adhesive boards to close any gaps. Mine is painted flat black, so it hides any flaws pretty well. The kit also includes parts to detail the coal chute and a new door. The shipping from Micromark really ups the cost of the kit by about $9.
