Plastruct Bondene

The OP of the Walthers Tank Car post mentioned that he found Plastruct cement less effective than other types. I recently used Plastruct Bondene to repair a cargo hatch styrene grip in my suv that had cracked from sun fade - induced aging (after I found out a replacement part would “only” cost me $64 at the Ford dealers parts dept!).

The repair has held up quite well after 3 months of use, so I wonder if my particular type of Plastruct cement is the one the OP is referring to. Are there different Plastruct cement formulas?

I have also used it in structure building, with no problems. This particular Plastruct cement causes a melt between the 2 pieces being mated together, the immediately evaporates from the styrene surfaces, with no marring.

There are three (3) Plastruct solvent adhesives:

Plastic Weld Cement, Bondene Cement, Weldene Cement, each contain a different chemical make-up for various Plastic’s. I prefer using the Plastic Weld cement…found it to be extremely strong, if You lightly coat both pieces in assembly…it contains MEK.

I have been using the tester’s glue, and have no problems with it.
