Remember, this is just for fun. So many people are acting as though further diminution of the number of Class One railroads is inevitable, shouldn’t we be trying to document these lines as they are now . . . or as the devil in me thinks the worst side of them MIGHT be.
Not that you’ll ever hear it from the corporate publicists, but which of the following book titles do you find the most offensive? No radio buttons because you’re all going to bless me our or suggest fallen flags, shortlines, etc.
Please vote on the following: "My favorite nasty book would be . . "
“THE WORLD’S LONGEST SHORTLINE” – Kansas City Southern
“UNCLE PETE, UNDER POWERED” – Why the U.P. can’t make it
“CHESSIE GOES TO HELL” – Today’s CSX
“TAKING GRAPHIC DESIGN STRAIGHT INTO THE 1960s” – The BNSF swoosh.
"WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THESE JACKALS BEFORE THEY THINK THEY CAN RUN AN AMERICAN RAILROAD?" – Canadian efficiency and American charm: CN
“THE HATFIELDS MEET THE SNOPSES” – A study of corporate inbreeding: NS’s shotgun wedding.
“WE’RE MAKING OOT VERY WELL, THANK YOU” – CP, nobody’s favorite takeover target
By the way, “Allen Smalling” is just a pseudonym. My real name is “Commodore Chico von Wabash.” [}:)]
Just a thought,
if you want to have a poll on which one is the best tag line, try setting it up in a poll format so people can vote. Might get a few more responses
Of course, I thought UP stood for Under Performance.
“Snopses” is not in my dictionary.
Amtrak is not in your list.
“Send Lawyers, Guns and Money” is by Warren Zevon, and perhaps fits
Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern.
I vote for the one about BNSF. I am still holding a grudge against them for the horrible new logo they chose and quit radding on the UP everybody they are a great railroad ( even though what everyone said is true). No railroad can be perfect. Also where is the Amtrak bashing? I am sure there are lots of people on the forums who are fed up with Amtrak.
Good going, Junctionfan. Maybe you could add “labor disputes” for the FEC?
SInce no one thought of going to amazon.com and globalling “Snopse” or “Snopses,” let me just say that the Snopse family was Wm. Faulkner’s quintessentially “white trash” family. They appear on and off in some of the novels and mostly on in one trilogy–called, appropriately enough, the “Snopes Trilogy.” As the 20th Century roared on, the Snopses did better and better for themselves until they were finally running “The Hamlet” and other political entitites. The point I was trying to make is that one clan were Hillbillies and the other Deep South. Not unlike N&W merging with Southern. Don’t anybody pick on me for ethnic stereotyping: I’m of southern US stock, part Scot-Irish and part English, and all feisty. I could also practically TOUCH the N&W trains that went past our little house in Emory, Virginia.
Not that I’m complaining, considering who runs CHICAGO.
I didn’t do Amtrak because it isn’t really a railroad to me. I love passenger trains but Amtrak, if it were private, would have gone out of business by 1972.
TFM was a good idea, but all I could think of was some Speedy-Gonzalez type puns. Not politically correct and perhaps never were! Can you think of something? Oh, and the"F" word in the middle made an irresistible adjective, but I don’t want to send that kind of word out on the net; there may be impressionable rainfans’ children there.
I hate UP the most because of the “LACK” of service! But you don’t hear me complaining about it. I don’t like the new BNSF “SWOOSH” line eather,But after while it tends to grow on you. I don’t care for the NS because of the hostal attack when CSXT&Conrail where talking about a Merger.Like I said. Im not complaining.
Allan.
TOO FUNNY!!! I loved em yes the BNSF Nike swoosh does kinda grow on you ( at least to me as they write the checks now) IMRL was the I might make a real living -the story of the Washington fiasco. Interesting Milwaukee Rock Link How to make two carriers live again.
TFM that universal adjective will get you everytime but lets try Tres Frio Mexicanos Three Mexican railroaders get sent to chicago in the winter?
So many names so little time!
