Please HELP!

I need to know what type of couplers to buy for a lifelike engine and cars.

Kadees are good couplers. The standard #5 works well or the “scale” #58 is a good choice. There are other brands as well such as Accurail and Bachmann. Kadee is generally the best choice. Install them like it says in the directions and check that they are at the correct height by using a NMRA gauge or a Kadee coupler height gauge. The Kadee gauge also checks the coupler pin height so that it doesn’t hang up on any track. Make sure they spring back to the center as well when you pu***hem to the side.

I agree too, use they Kadee’s, they are allot more forgiving in the long run.[:)]

Kadees only. I had an accident today with a run away car on a steep grade. It met with another car at the bottom of the hill at probably 100 scale MPH. The run away car had a Mc Henry coupler. the other a Kadee. I had to replace the Mc Henry and find broken pieces on track. The Kadee, still there. As I said very steep grade

Kadee! Oh, and welcome to the forum!

The older Lifelike cars will require a special kind of Kadees, and you can askyour Local Hobby Shop about that, or check the Kadde website, http://www.kadee.com/
Welcome!

As everyone has already said, go Kadee. Although large by scale standards, they operate well and the variety of types allows you to match any manufacturers cars or engines.

That would work if you are in HO scale, but they don’t have those in N scale. You would probably want Micro Trains in N.

I’m surprised that no one even ask this gentleman what scale he was inquiring about.

So I will.

Jarvis,

It would help us to advise you if we knew what scale you are in[?]

Alan I think everyone is assuming you re working in HO. If you have N guage then check into Micro-Trains couplers. The larger scales and Z might hae different accepted standards but I don’t have a clue what those would be.

KAYDEE and if you have a lot of cars, invest in the gauge and the spring tool.

The new #58 couplers are tom scale.
And yes, could you tell us what scale you’re in?

[#welcome][#welcome] to the forum alan jarvis. Kadee’s IMHO are the best you can get.

a #5 doesn’t fit L-L very well- check the conversion guide at www.kadee.com -i think it’s #28 for L-L- oh, [#welcome][#welcome][#welcome] to the forums
