Maybe we can reply as a matter of course every so often and keep this in plain sight.
Goodness…
No offense, but this seems cold and blunt, don’t you think?
No, I don’t think so at all.
Hmmmm. O.K, but it’s a shame that for such an informative forum, a cold unwelcoming message like this title is posted. Especially considering that the TRAINS, MRR, CT, CTT forums are part of the same family.
This forum is devoted to Classic trains, however, as in all forums from time to time overlap topics will cross into the back and forth communications within the forum. It’s pretty easy to reply to a “modeler’s” question or comment and then steer the topic back onto Classic Trains or whichever forum the discussion is taking place in. I’ve seen this happen over on the TRAINS and MRR forums where members tactfully answer questions and kindly suggest that the poster check out the forum where the question/comment would receive greater responses. As train fans, we’re supposedly friendly folks.
Again, no offense but it upset me when the news media recently claimed that
-
Americans are the rudest people on the planet.
-
Most railfans and model railroaders are supposedly weird and strange.
Guys at age 43 as a diehard railfan and modeler I totally disagree with that view, however imho, threads like this seem to give credence to the wacko media’s claims.
Peace out.
Who is the moderator of this forum?
I suppose a nicer way to put it would be ‘12 inch to the foot scale only’, but that might not be P.C. for countries where metric is used.[8D]
Don’t worry, I’m not into Political Correctness which is why I despise media outlets, such as CNN. I do a pretty good job of ticking off liberals on my job. (They’re nice people but sheesh! These guys and ladies so sensitive about everything involving ethics, child rearing, discipline, etc.,).
UP829,
[12" to the scale foot…]
Now that’s creative! [:D][8D][C):-)]
Who will moving posts about Toy Trains and Model Railroads into the other forums?
Andrew
Good idea Andrew, just move the post to the proper forum. We would need some proactive moderation for that.
Ed
That was my point, to have the situation corrected. If you don’t like the post let it die a natural death by not responding. I don’t see any offensive content that is insulting. It’s meant to direct those who are confused to the proper forum. I should have said " see Classic Toy Trains", granted…I personally like both forums but I end up having to scan both to find forums to find a thread…not exactly working correctly as it should… as far as being labelled weird, or what have you by my fellow poster…I have been called worse…
Wally,
Please don’t take my comments negatively. No, you’re not weird. You have intelligent, very in-depth posts on other threads. Especially on the TRAINS forum. Your comments push people to think.
BTW: It’s the “media” that says that “We” are weird. Your intentions are honorable, but I was simply pointing out to you how the title of this thread may be perceived, especially by new visitors. Nothing more.
Peace and High Greens to you.
It baffles me that this situation, which I think is easy to resolve, still exists. The banner at the top reading “General Discussion (Classic Trains)'” could easily carry the disclaimer that this is not a General Hobby Site but is along the lines of Classic Trains Magazine.
And it saddens me that no one in Kalmbach seems to be monitoring this forum as there have been many posts suggesting to posters that they would get better response in one of the hobby forums.
It’s not user friendly to not alert would-be users that although they may consider Lionel, Ives, and Marx as ‘Classic Trains’, information about those manufacturers can be found in the "Classic Toy Trains’ forum.

But all we have to do is e-mail Bergie. He’s usually very good about replying within a reasonable amount of time.
First, Kalmbach is providing this forum at no cost to the users, and probably at little or no income to them. They do monitor it periodically, but it would make no business sense to have someone monitor it full time. They mainly police the content and break up some outright fights, but worrying about whether someone posted something that another poster thinks should be under a different heading makes even less sense.
Anyone with any manners would simply post that “you may have better luck posting this question under the Model Railroader Magazine heading.” Most times, this faux pas is committed by new members, so a little simple guidance is more in order.
Very well said! Incidently…I do a pretty good job at ticking off conservatives on my job! What a balance we have here!!! [:P][:P][:P][:P][:P]
underworld[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
It wouldn’t hurt to have such a notice someplace prominent, but it should not read the way it does…just my opinion. This idea should be flown past Bergie in an email, and if he agrees, he can concoct a short marquis, maybe one that moves to catch the eye, and do it on each forum.
FTR, I haven’t noticed it was was big problem to begin with, but that’s just me.
Once I was almost going to post a reply to the effect that the poster use a 17,000 PSI pressure washer to clean all the crud off a recently acquired steam engine(no scale or manufacturer was specified)[8D]
All the fretting about upsetting and creating anxiety on the communal apple cart can be laid to rest…I changed the wording…All those who had fears about alienating posters had no problem doing the same to me…when I was trying to get the attention of a moderator…and correct a very obvious confusion…if you have a problem with that…so be it.
Oh, For cryin out loud, I read enough of this crap on other forums. And the one place that I thought would be clean of this type of stuff is cropping up here. Look, Im into “o” gauge Lionel, both pre and post war, now tell me please, is prewar stuff not a classic train? Of course it is, no ifs, ands, or buts about it in my book!
Why can’t I post anything in the “Model Railroader” forum? Is not any scale train model railroading? Of course it is! Why is it only for 'HO" scale? Why must I only be limited to CTT? If this section is that important, then Classic Trains needs to change their name to impart that it is only for the REAL Large people/freight moving actual railroad and not just a generic phrase of classic trains. Which can be construded to be any old train, toy or otherwise.
To stubbsO: Your rant is halfway valid but these forums are named after the magazines thet Kalmbach publishes. I subscribed to four of them for awhile but finally dropped Model Railroader even though I’d been a subscriber since the late 40’s. Still get TRAINS, Garden Railways, and Classic Trains, and buy an occasional Classic Toy Trains at the newstand. Never saw anything about Lionel or Marx in Classic Trains Magazine so posts about those manufacturers in this forum is a bit off base.
I think the name change of this thread was a nice touch; but zx I have directed several posters to better sites as have many others, I think your rant is, in my humble opinion, far worse than what has been posted here to date. It makes me wonder if you subscribe to Classic Trains and have you taken the time to suggest to those who posted here in error to post in a more logical forum?
