Plug and play Decoders

I may be a bit nieve in this but are plug and play decoders realy as they imply. Should I expect to do some minor modifications on a DCC ready loco, or just plug it in and send it off to the program track?

Yup, just plug it in and go. Great example are the Athearn RTR to with DCC Plug and Play. You unplug the DC jumper chip, and plug in the decoder. it will take you longer to get the freakin shell off then too switch the decoders.

One bit of cation, sometimes they can be tricky as they are kinda small. say dime size, and unplugging the facotry jumper may take a bit of paitence. but as straigtht foward as throwing a light switch

All my Digitrax pnp decorders for my Kato n-scale locos were just that easy… slipped off the shell, slid in the decoder and shell back on… ten minutes (second one).

Theye can go in upside down, so test it on the track before you replace the shell.

As CSXfan discovered on the linked thread they are not always plug and play…
