plug & play constant lites for Athearn

We are returning to the hobby after a rest of about 7 years, (moved and had no layout) and we had bought from Longs Drugs? in California some Plug & Play constant intensity Headlites for Athearn. These were pre-wired so you just removed the top clip on the electric motor and replaced it with the kit one and connected the leads to the power trucks with automotive type connectors. Then you taped the lites to the body and put the body back on. They were directional too. The company used to advertise in MR but havent seen any adds lately and their telephone number is gone too. Any Ideas what to use instead? TIA for any ideas .

I don’t know anything about the Athearn constant lighting kits you have, but can tell you that Long’s Drugs hobby store closed several years ago. I used to order from them quite often, and then they suddenly closed up with no prior notice.

It’s not really clear what you are asking. You say you have the kits and instructions on how to install them, so what do you need? Are you trying to locate more constant lighting kits? If so, there are a couple of companies that make them which you should be able to locate through a simple Google or Yahoo search using the term Constant Lighting.

For example, here’s a do-it-yourself constant lighting circuit that Google turned up, which you can build using diodes:

And a link to Miniatronics Corporation, who may have made the kits you have. These are available today at most hobby shops.

I figured that Longs must have gone out of business. I think the lighting kits they sold were made locally becase i never saw them advertized anywhere but on their adds in MR. They were so simple to install and needed no soldering. I was hoping someome in the LA area that had bought the product would know who made them for Longs and if anyone was stocking them?
