Being new on the forum, please forgive me if a similar thread already exists.
I propose folks provide a series of photos showing the evolution of key scenes on your layouts from barren benchwork to a landscaped scene. Lets limit it to 4 or 5 photos. All the better if you provide a short caption for each shot explaining what you are doing in that point in time. The aim is to demystify scenery and provide a wide range of landscapes from waterfronts to mountains, cities to towns.

Research:satellite pic from google earth/1x4 framing/plywood/2" styrofoam. Laid out the trestle/bridge so i knew what to cut out roughly.

What did you use to cut the foam?
Combo-drywall jabsaw and a old steak knife with small serrations on the blade.

I take it this is the river scene with the canoers? Excellent work on that bridge.
Excellent. I will be looking to do something similar in the future

Here is the sequence for an area of cliff bands. I layered foam sheets at a slight angle to mimic tilted bedrock.
I rough carved with an old serrated steak knife, and used a Woodland Scenics foam knife to carve details it the rock.
Then I covered all none rock terrain with Sculptamold mixed with my base paint. Used light washes of cheap acrylic on the rock. Painted the backdrop and added in the ground cover.

Tried to post the satellite pic i worked off but it was taking forever to load.
I’ll play. This is my fictional scene of the original Norfolk Southern Ry. crossing over the Seaboard Air Line. My scenic base is foam. This also shows my scratchbuilt curved trestle.
Finally, the finished product:

That oblique drone shot gives great perspective.
This is great, Dave! Nice work on the trestle and showing the use of the Woodland Scenics risers.

I really like the idea behind this thread, a photographic build sequence. At first, I thought that I could not participate except to offer kudos since most of my build sequences are photographed on the workbench. But while I was down fooling around my layout this afternoon, I got to thinking about some photos I took of my progress on the layout. So, here goes.
When I started building my newest layout back in 2018, I needed a space on my layout to display a scratchbuilt vertical lift bridge. I chose the following location where I could place a river with a bridge running over it to replicate the PRR vertical lift bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River in downtown Chicago.
After I finished the initial frame work, I test fit the bridge on the base.
I then began the process of building the river bed (actually a controlled channel on the prototype) in the open space.
Once that was done, I began to paint the river bed and seal any openings to prevent leaks of the Envirotex Lite that I used to simulate water.
Lastly, I poured the water and finished the landscaping around the bridge area.
I was pretty pleased with the outcome.
