Poet and don't know it..

It’s not my job to run the train,

The whistle I can’t blow.

It’s not for me to say how far

The train’s allowed to go.

I’m not allowed to blow off steam,

Nor even clang the bell.

But let the dang thing jump the track

And see who catches H*ll.

I used to quote that poem for my principal at school every time I would get in trouble because someone in my dept. would do something stupid. I would be the one that got yelled at because I had seniority and should have told him not to do it… Once she was very upset with me because some idiotic little form for the main office that amounted to plain old busy work hadn’t been turned in on time at the height of my concert season. I told her that there were only 26 hours in a day. She started to correct me, then started to laugh. Then said to get it done as soon as you can. She did have a sense of humor and was a good lady to work for. [:)]

BTW, I have the same poem for ships hanging on the wall by my computer.

There is a similar version pertaining to soldiers:

It’s “Tommy this…”,

and “Tommy that…”, and “Chuck him out, the brute.”

But he’s Hero of his Country

when the guns begin to shoot.

hey, a kid at my school knows that one. i didnt think it was a real poem, just sumthin he made up
