Polarity for PW 2344

I have a simple question for which I have not been able to find an answer. What is the proper way to put the D cell battery into a 2344. Does the positive end of the battery go into the locomotive body or does it matter?

Electrically, it shouldn’t matter; but the holder looks like it was meant for positive up.
