Poler Express on ABC tonight / Movie not HO Scale

I watched some of the Poler Express movie on ABC this evening. When the kid on the train described the locomotive, he said it was a Baldwin built engine.

This is odd since the PM 1225 Berkshire, which was used for the animation is a Lima engine. They did get the Berkshire type correct and gave out some other information, but that is Hollywood for you.

Did anyone else notice this??

LOL! Yes, I did. My wife made me watch it. I thought maybe I had just heard it wrong but I guess I didn’t. I did like the way that train looked though, a classic!

Glad to see some one else caught that. The train animation was very good since a lot of it was taken directly from the real Berkshire. The sound was great and the close up of the drivers was very good.

They steered the engine on the frozen lake by reversing the thottle by spinning the wheels in the reverse direction, since the tracks were underwater. Hollywood has a great imagination!

The locomotive the kid describes on the train is a 1939 built S3 type, correct for an Erie 2-8-4, not a PM. Hey, atleast it’s a 2-8-4! The locomotive does look more like an Erie than 1225 in the movie, too… headlight being the main reason.

They did take some liberties from the design of the PM 1225 Berk for Hollywood purposes, most notably the different style headlight. That was done on purpose by Hollywood and not just from ignorance.
