I find POLLS - What’s your favorite engine? - brand of track? - turnout? Etc.
amateurish. I’d like to see them ended. How about you?
MY favorite manufacturer or brand may not be yours. WHO CARES?
Model Railroader conduct;s a yearly poll among their readers. At least the results come from people willing to invest $39 yr., as opposed to computers owners with time on their hands…
What’s next? Best computer? ISP? Redhead’s VS Blond’s?
I like brunets, myself. I think if someone thinks about and creates a good poll, they’re O.K. Don’t see them too often, though. Howver, in reality, I don’t have control over, nor do I want to control what people put on this forum. Do your own thing! I likely won’t participate.
End them now! most are overzealous poeple expounding about something they know little or nothing about and have not done homework on resulting in a lot of verbage about nothing. Waste of good bandwidth.
While they’re not my favorite type of post, they don’t particularly bother me. I don’t see any reason to end them. I’ve figured out how to avoid wasting time on posts I’m not interested in, I simply don’t open the thread.
Seriously though, while there have been plenty of silly nonsensical polls, there have been a lot of good and interesting ones. We don’t want to get rid of them, we just need people to use a little restraint. This is supposed to be fun. [swg]
Polls are fun. If you don’t like one just skip it. I don’t like them all, but then I don’t like all the topics posted either. I just read the ones that interest me and skip the rest.
Enjoy
Paul
Redheads!!!
This forum, as with every related forum, should be about model railroading.
It should also be fun for all that are actively involved with it.
I myself find polls to be educational in the sense that someone could be doing something that I’m not & maybe I could try it.
If you don’t like polls, don’t bother with them.
It’s also a way that we can learn something about each other.
It’s interesting to know that Elliot uses 3 rail O scale etc etc etc.
Using polls as also told me that some people don’t like polls.
The polls should not end, but the originator of the poll should be required (after a certain amount of time) to write an essay on the findings and opinions of those who commented.
Then all the polls and findings should be posted somewhere so people who wi***o can review them to see if the poll they are about to post has been done or if they feel the results of a previous poll are outdated, then it can be redone with an explanation of why they think the previous poll results need updated.
Anyone want to post a poll to see what everyone thinks of the idea?
Brunets with long hair and brown eyes.[:D]
Don,Perhaps instead of trying to put a stopper to what most forum members seem to enjoy perhaps you should skip over them? I agree some doesn’t make sense and those I skip…But,there are those that I find very interesting as I suppose the manufacturers does that looks in on the most popular forums.I suspect MR may be looking at the better poles as well. You see Don,that is feed back to a certain degree…
most polls, as you probably know mr. gibson, are started by kids, such as dougal, trainfreak, and so on. I’m a kid also, and while we have a vast amount of knowledge, we still like having fun finding out what other peoples preferences are, whether it be geeps or u-boats, or whatever. calling poll starters amaturish could discourage them from participating in this hobby.
And another point; it also seems that people that are “hardcore” dislike polls
Personally, if you don’t like or aren’t in to polls then just skip them. They ARE identified as such so pass on them.
I would prefer if folks put in more thought to the question they are polling though. I mean it would be better than having the majority of the answers blasting the poller for not including something obvious. An example would be the favorite SD poll that forgot the SD-35…not a totally obscure engine. The polls just lose it when the answers get away from the original poll question.
Keep 'em, we can always pass over them if they’re not anything we’re interested in. Myself, I have a lot of fun with some of them, and as a fairly ‘newbie’ to the forum, it’s interesting to find out what other model railroaders think.
Oh, and I vote for Redheads. Especially if they’re Austrian sopranos.
I like polls alot. If you don’t like them, skip over them. It seems like anyone could figure that out. Now I may not know who NSYNC, Hillary Duff and all those other modern stars are ( I’m a Beach Boys fan myself [:D] ) but I do know that if the poll title is not somthing I am interested in, I dont click on it ! golly, is it hard to see ?
