Polly Scale flat varnish

Has anybody had problems using recently purchased Polly Scale flat varnish ? I’ve used the stuff for years with no problem and excellent results but a recently purchased batch (I tried 3 bottles out of 8) just left a nasty chalky white skin on the model.

Thanks,

Haydn.

Did you rule out humidity or such variables? I was just using a can of Krylon flat that I’ve been using without any problems and then one day all I sprayed with that can turned white. 2 days later it worked fine. The only thing I came up with was humidity.

Yes. Apparently, Polly Scale has changed the formula (or so I’ve heard), and the result has been a milky white finish.

A friend of mine had it “chalk” so bad that it left chunks on the models. Thank the stars they were cement hoppers, so it looked like weathering.

My advice would be to get rid of it and use Badger Modelflex Flat, SMP Accu-paint Flat, Testor’s ModelMaster Flat, or heck, even old Floquil Flat because Polly Scale Flat has turned into a horrible Flat finish.

loathar,
I’ve tried out this Polly Scale flat in the dead of winter when it was dry as a bone, and it still left a milky white finish.

Paul3-Thanks for the info! Guess I won’t be trying that stuff.

Thanks for the responses - I’ll look into those alternatives. (I don’t think humidity was a factor - it rarely is here in the UK !).

Cheers,

Haydn.
