I went to spray some Poly scale concrete paint last night and when I put in the poly scale airbrush thinner the paint tuned a thick slug. I didnt even try to sray it I just dumped it out and cleaned the cup. Has this ever happened to anyone else.
I haven’t heard of this happening before, so I don’t know what to say. Was it the new Polly Scale with the red label or the older bottles? (Maybe green labels.)
I spray Polly Scale as it is right from the bottle with no thinning at 35 psi.
I haven’t heard of this happening either, and I’ve been using Pollyscale and Modelmaster Acryl almost exclusively for 15 years now. Are you absolutely certain it wasn’t all gunked up BEFORE you added the thinner? As long as it wasn’t hardened completely, you should be able to restore it with the thinner. If the paint is really gummy, it does take some work to get things back to normal, but it can be done. An important consideration when paint is running about $4.50 a bottle. I think what may have happened is that there was a big lump of partially hardened pigment under some solvent, and when you started mixing, it popped to the surface.
The only other possibility that comes to mind is that at some point you filled a thinner bottle with something else and forgot to relabel it.
I haven’t bought paint in a while (don’t do much hobby stuff during the summer months), but the old Pollyscale label scheme was green for military / modelling colors (1/2 oz. jar) and red for railroad colors (1 oz. jar). Has this changed?
I may have figured it out. I used 99% ISO alcohol when it happened. So I did a test on a pallet. I put 3 drops of the Polyscale engine black on the pallet and put the 99% ISO on a drop and it turned to goop, the second drop I used 91% alcohol fron Osco and it thinned it nicely, the third drop I put on distilled water and it was fine. For some reason it does not like the 99% alcohol which I use all the time to thin Tamiya paints. I know I dont have to use 99% ISO but it was given to me. I guess I will stick with the water or drug store ISO. But whats funny is this paint doesnt like that particular bottle of Poly S airbrush thinner either.
