Portable modular layout connection

Hello all

I have heard about portable modular layouts and wonder how the track is connected accross a split in tables. Is the track just pulled apart and pushed back together or is there a special coupling available to make it easy.

Wouldn’t track couplings be damaged if just the little metal clips are used.

I can see where getting more than one connection together would be a pain in the ear. It may cause the track to be damaged in the process or at least pulled from the base. I have to get both pieces of track started and wiggle them together. Or am I doing it wrong?

What about people talking about a hindged folding table? How the heck does that work?

Just a newbe asking those dumb questions[banghead]

Most people leave a 4.5" gap on the track on either side. When the modules are put together a standard 9" straight sectional track is inserted to jump the gap. I have seen a few with butt joints, but then the modules have to be a perfect match one to the next.

Nope, that is about the size of it. That is why most modular units have only two or three tracks most crossing the joint.

I use modules for my home layout. They are connected together by 1 inch of removable rail. I leave 1/2 inch on each side of the module and can connect them as shown.

I hope this helps a little!
