A Portland & Western Engineer was found dead from a gunshot by his Conductor outside his locomotive cab this morning at Eugene Yd. in Oregon. No further details at this time.
According to the story in the Eugene Register guard the engineer was found by a co-worker, presumably his conductor. That does not confirm nor deny the conductor was the shooter. Police were called "shortly before 5AM
I used to work for PNWR and as of a couple of years ago jobs went to work at 6AM and 6PM so this looks like the Friday Night Switcher. The location given is not the yard office.

Way too many possibilities.
Given how things are these days it could well range from someone out to steal something from the cars who was surprised by the engineer to something personal between the engineer and the conductor (or some other person).
Could be a suicide or could be murdered. Eugene, especially that part of town, is pretty rough. Lots of alcohol and drugs (crystal meth).
