When I got home and checked my mail, I received to different offers for books. One was for a bunch of engineering related books. Two of the books were Railroad Vehicle Dynamics, A Computational Approach and Handbook of Railway Vehicle Dynamics. They look like they may be interesting reading, as long as I can find the time.
The other was from Commonwealth Business Media for The Official Railway Equipment Register. In spite of the cost, I am tempted to order this one.
I’ve got a few ORERs in my collection–they’re good for research into when certain cars or car types may have existed; they also come in handy from time to time for the serious “Car-chaeology”.
If I ever get a laptop computer, I’m thinking about making my next ORER purchase in the CD-ROM form.
The “Register” is by far the more interesting volume of the two as far as I am concerned. It will appreciate in value as the years go by. BUT, if you are into serious engineering/ modeling or just plain science in general then the Dynamics book is for you. Me? I’d buy the register-slam dunk.
