WHEN, in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one Poster to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected him with another, and to assume, among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Railroad Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s GOD entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the Causes which impel them to the Separation.
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Posters are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are a Computer, Broadband Connectivity, and the Pursuit of Medals.–That to secure these Medals, Posts are instituted among Forums, deriving their just Counting from the Consent of the Posters…
Several others asked that very same question and said they weren’t concerned by it. Then the bottom dropped out of their counts. I’ve gotten PM’s from quite a few including them saying how concerned they are about it. I’ve watched mine go from over 20,200 to 0 overnight and back to 0 a few more times, the latest being this morning. All I can tell you is that I wrote up a post on it and kicked it upstairs to the admins. All I’ve heard is it’s being looked into.
I remember when a certain ‘character who shall remain nameless’ pulled a fast one around here. He copied Jeffrey’s signature and changed his name by one character to pretend to be Jeffrey. It took a few obnoxious posts by him and a glance at the post count by us to realize it was an impostor.
Yes, I did some mathematical machinations and have determined that the counts are the result of your last estimated post number derived from an inverse hyperbolic cosecant function multiplied by the fourier transformed original number you had when the new board was introducied, divided by the number of months remaining on your current subscription, times the natural log of the probability you will renew, minus the square root of minus one.
For the mathematically numbed, the square root of minus one is an imaginary number, (i), to mathematicians. This means that the resultant calculation of your number of posts is also imaginary.
Imagine that!
I think the formula used for figuring your postings is a left over calculation from the stockmarket derivatives boom. (meaning it is artfully setup and rigged such that you lose)…Always
Richard
P.S. Maybe they’ll learn their sums one day so that when they see you had 2,314 posts and just posted another, that you now have 2,314 + 1 = 2,315 posts. We can always hope.
In the greater scheme of things, it doesn’t make a difference.
But you are missing the point. The forum keeps track of our number of posts, we don’t. So, if they are going to keep track, they ought to get it right.
