Lee,
I learning the new format just like you and everyone else. I’m not sure but you may be able to accomplish what you want by clicking the “Favorites” button in the button bar above the text box. There’s a option to “Add this post as a favorite”. Let me know if that works for you.

The pencil, star, thumtack, or other object tag to the left of the topic is red if there are new posts, and turns yellow after you have looked at it, so a yellow pencil = no new posts.

This is the third time I’ve tried to post this reply and had problems. I see the thumb tack etc but I preferr to look at my discussions to see if there are replys without going to the subject.Maybe it’s just me but navigating the new site seems to be more labor intensive. Posting seems to take longer to take effect.

Lee,
The icon next to the topic’s title will indicate if there are any new postings since you last read that topic.
A yellow pencil/thumbtack/star on a grey-white page indicates that you have already read that topic and that no new postings have been made since you last read it.
A red pencil/thumbtack/start on a blue page indicates that either (a) you have never read that topic, or (b) new postings have been made since you last read it.
