post war S gauge trucks

Hello Gents,

I have an American Flyer 293 that lost its side truck. what is the best way to repair this? Also how would you repair a freight car truck w/o a press, I have the rivets but not the large tools to roll the rivet over?

Thanks for the Help

Take a little super glue into the notch where the truck meets the sideframe. It should press right in.

As far a rivits, I have used an old door hinge pin as a drift and taking a piece of hardwood made an anvil with a concave top to hold the rivit head. Take the hinge pin and peen the rivit till it flattens out and sungs the truck against the car floor. It is a pain. If I did it often I’d get a regular drift and anvil. I’ve thought of firguing a way using a C clamp, but have not got it yet.

Thanks Jim,

If the truck has to complete a circuit does it matter if it is super glued?

I have some large C clamps, your right though spining them over is a pain…

To complete a circuit as in a tender or an operating car there is usually a wiper contact coming off the axle.

Jim

yep your right… my bad, guess the truck contact to axle is redundant.
