This has been an ongoing issue since a couple of software upgrades ago. Here’s the workaround:
Place a bracketed “url” (minus the quotes) on the front end of the link and a bracketed “/url” (minus the quotes) on the backside of the link. It will then become clickable like the following:
The baffling thing is that the old way of creating links still works when you use it in a PM. For whatever reason it just doesn’t work when posting it here in a thread. [sigh]
I tried copying BMMECNYC’s link URL from his orignal post and ran into the same issue. After experimenting a bit I discovered if I pasted the URL directly into another browser address field and copied that URL, I could then paste it back into the my post (with the aforementioned url prefix and suffix) and it worked. For whatever reason, copying and pasting the URL from the body of another post doesn’t seem to work.
I wish this nagging issue would get addressed but I don’t think it’s a high priority with Kalmbach.
It works when I add the url before and after the link but when I “ADD Quote to your Post”, the link does not work in the quoted portion of my reply. Go figure.
I find that when I post links they don’t work but when I edit my reply and fix the links they work fine just by pasting the link back into the space for Url in the link form. Sometimes you just have to out smart the computer.
Correct. The chain link icon works just fine with any external URL that is NOT a Kalmbach forum link. It just doesn’t work for internal links for some reason. [:S]
the above approach works fine. But unlike other links it doesn’t provide a description of what is being linked to. In the above case, the description is the URL.
the URL can be part of the tag following an “=” and description delimited by the tags. replace “<>” with “” in following
I’ll second the suggestion that this be addressed in a Sticky under the General thread. I’m sure they don’t want lots of Stickies there but this is a longer term issue and would be useful for everyone, much like the post a photo info item.
If you don’t feel like dealing with brackets, copy the link, go to tinyurl.com and follow the directions to make a shorter link and copy that to you clipboard, the use the link icon https://tinyurl.com/y9eh9c9y
