How do I make a link for a webpage I put in a post clickable? Searched the FAQ and there’s nothing on that, at least that I can find. If I do a copy and paste from a website I visit, it’s not clickable in the post. Keep in mind that I’m working from a Mac and using Safari. And in case someone suggests I use something like Firefox, how do I do it in that browser?
I use Firefox. What I do is type in the word(s) that I want to represent the link, highlight the word(s) then click the chain link icon in the reply box toolbar. This brings up a a dialog box for making links. I paste the link url into the first block and click INSERT. In a couple of seconds it’s done.
Thanks - much appreciated. Things like this should be in the FAQ. Unfortunately, Safari doesn’t have these icons and such above the reply window so it looks like I’ll have to use Firefox if I want to make clickable links on a Mac.
Look at steinjr 's picture in his post. You need to highlight the text first which makes the chain link icon active, then click the icon he indicated. A new window opens, paste the url there, then tab through untikl the buttons appear at the bottom and click INSERT.
Regardless of browser, if you type in a web address like http://tonystrains.com (Edit: Specifically avoiding making that a link. Not trying to advertise. [:)] ) t should automatically format it into the proper URL -UNLESS- you have disabled HTML and BBCode in posts. This can be checked / unchecked in your user profile.
Nope. If I leave my forum profile unchanged and change between using IE and using firefox, writing an URL in IE automatically turns it into a link, but not when i use firefox to write.
The behavior is browser specific, not forum user settings specific.
Doesn’t work that way on a Mac with Safari. Once again, there are NO icons or anything above/in/near the window I am typing this in. Just a box that contains the subject line of the post, and a box that contains the quoted text and the text I am typing now.
