A lot of posts on this forum involve layout designs and requests for review. The responses often get bogged down with dialogs such as:
“Why not move the industry to the other track?”
“Which industry are you talking about?”
I might suggest that all layout drawings submitted for review include a grid legend to identify the locations on the layout. Such as:

Now the suggestion becomes:
“Why not move the industry at F-4 to the other track?”
And a lot of confusion is eliminated.
Even if a person’s drawing program cannot actually label the grid, the grid labeling shown above could be assumed. It is labeled just like a spreadsheet (rows are numerical and columns are alphabetical starting from the top left corner).
This would make layout reviews much more accurate and beneficial to all.
Thoughts?

I sure would make things easier. But I think getting people around here to follow the plan would be like trying to herd cats.

Something like this would have been a big help when I posted a track plan for critique. I did receive advice like move that track there over to this other track over on the right…after reading the advice a few times I was fairly [%-)]
I agree it will be nearly impossible to get everyone to follow suit and each new member will likely make the same mistakes that I made. Sticky’s have been proven not to work very well and MRR seems to be fundamentally against using sticky’s on a regular basis. perhaps because they know too that most people simply don’t bother to read them. Like Chip says…like herding cats… [banghead]
You could also simply add numbers to each pertinent location on the layout, and provide a legend identifying each number…
