Posting URLs

For those who aren’t familiar with “forum code” syntax -

There have been several ‘links’ posted lately that didn’t hyperlink to the desired page. I don’t mind cutting and pasting the URL (webpage address) into another browser window, but the addition of a few keystrokes of code will allow you to turn the URL into a hyperlink:

Use [ and ] instead of { and }…

{url}http://www.webpage.com{/url} will make the URL into a hyperlink.

Example: http://www.tree68.net/Railroad

{url=“http://www.webpage.com”}Word{/url} will turn the word(s) between the tags into a hyperlink. Be sure to include the quotes around the URL.

Example: Check out this page!

Keep those links a-comin’!

…Sorry, that is a bit of confusion {to me}. You make the example of , and then appear to us { }…?? But then, I realize some of the above is well known by some.

Quentin,

If Larry had used the [ and the ] in the example, the message would have tried to display his links, and he wouldn’t have been able to show how to type it. By using { and }, the message displayed all the text to demonstrate how to post. If you want to hyperlink, just remember to post it just like Larry did, except put [ any place a { is, and ] anyplace where } is.

…Thanks Chris…Understand what you have indicated.

I try. Kinda like the whole picture thing…

There is another way to create a URL link. You can select (hilite) text in your message and then click on the “chain link” icon (top row, near the middle). A new window will appear. Type (or copy and paste) the URL into the top box and click “Insert”. Voila! A new link.

OR, copy the link then paste the link in the text box and hit space once.

Why don’t you give it a try, here in this thread, and if it doesn’t work, no spilled milk.

Besides if it doesn’t work, one of us will be able to show you how to fix it, which is how most of us learned how to do it ourselves, first time out.

I’m hyper-ventilating!

…A G: A bit later…Must head out to find a bite to eat…or I’ll be here in front of this 'chine all day…Thanks.

Heard gas price dropped to just below 2 bucks {wife just called}, so better take the car out and fill it too…besides my stomach…

Under 2 bucks? The station down the street is 2.79 for regular unleaded. [4:-)]

I will try it.

I want only the words Like this? appear in my link

You did create a link, but you seem to have terminated it incorrectly.

Instead of just a “]”, make sure to put in a full tag “[ /url ]”.

Okay, you seem to have it. Are you typing in the tags, or are you using the link icon?

DATA thanks but I have to get my head on straight. I will try again later perhaps in the test forum

Okay, good luck. And be sure to follow Tree’s example if you are typing in the tags yourself.

OK now I am going to do it like tree’s other example

WORD

edit: Gee, this is tough. When it works, I am amazed.

Good job, spokyone [tup]

You might find that using the “link” icon is easier. Or maybe not…

Thanks for your help. And. Are you in Alaska now? Great avatar

My avatar is in Alaska. I’m still in sunny (and quite warm today) San Jose.
