Postwar 2055 set questions.

For Christmas I got a 2055 Hudson set. Because this is my first “big” post-war steamer I have a few questions. 1. Dose someone make repro smoke pellets. 2. The loco has some paint chipping in some areas should I repaint it, if so dose someone make “Lionel steamer black”. 3. There is some white residue on the trucks What is it and how can I remove it? Thanks!

If the white stuff on the trucks is oxide, you can remove it with a wire wheel in a Dremel tool. The truck looks pretty good without repainting. Just make sure it is a metal truck and not a plastic one. The wire wheel will ruin a plastic truck.

Congrats on the new 2055! I have one myself (incidentally my first postwar steamer as well). They are great engines and run well. I sadly have no advice to give you, however i will say that my locomotive has a few chips of the paint job, but I feel that adds to the charm of it, and i hardly even notice.

Mine sadly had been converted to liquid smoke, however this has made things alot easier, as all of my other engines have liquid units as well. Enjoy your 2055!

RickyL.,

Your Lionel #2055 steam locomotive literally has all of the bells and whistles.

It was a top of the line ‘O-27’ gauge-(having a FOUR number designation-Lionel’s classification: ‘O’-Three digits, ‘O-27’-Four digits),
Santa Fe style ‘Hudson’ engine having a decent size body, was one of the workhorses and having the following goodies:
1-Bell and Whistle Ornaments;
2-Magne-Traction;
3-Extra-Detailed Running Gear (side rods, etc.);
4-Headlight;
5-Puffing Smoke;
6-Three-Position E-Unit.

I use liquid smoke in my post war steamer without any problem, but you may wish to do different.

If the white deposit is on metal, then a small brush with light oil may help remove it, wipe excess oil off.

If plastic maybe a solution of warm water and liquid dish washing detergent may help, as the detergent has synthetic replenishing qualities in it. But, rinse off and dry well, due to some metal pieces, which may be combined with the plastic part.

I hope this may helps.

Good Luck,

Ralph
