Anyone out there have one for sale that still looks good and in running condition? I believe this was the first postwar work caboose built by Lionel. Let me know if I’m correct.
As far as I know, it was. I don’t know of any others that came out either before or after, but I sold my Lionel stuff in 1958 (sigh). IIRC, it came in both Lionel Lines and DL&W. I had one of the latter. John Timm
The 2419 AND 2420 entered the Lionel Line in 1946. They had di-cast frames, plastic body and tool boxes, and wire hand rails. All “2400” series had coil coulpers. In 1949 the coulpers changed and the numbers became 6419 and 6420. Marking on the body was “D.L.& W.” with “Lionel Lines” stamped on the frame.
2419, in a light gray color was cataloged in “O-27” sets
2420, in a dark gray color had a Search Light mounted between the tool boxes and was cataloged in “O” gauge sets.
Expect to pay much more for the 2420 virsion. Both the 2419 and 2420 can be found at large train shows.
A picture always helps.
I added the brown to avoid any confusion.
Not for sale.
