What drives the chain, is there a sproket on the driving shaft or is there a friction type drive to move the chain on the driving shaft? Sorry for the question but I have never seen this loader in person.
Rick,This is what it looks like. I’ve had mine since it was issued. It’s a lot of fun. Makes a mess, not efficient moving goal but it’s a nice accessory to have. You will need dual tracks about 14 inches a part. Usual maintence requied. Coal might get wedged in the sprockets but no big problem. We have enjoyed it for many many years.
Rick,
I don’t have the Postwar version, but I do have the reissue, #32921. If you go to the Lionel website, click on Customer Service, then parts diagrams, and (finally!) enter the catalog number, you’ll get a exploded-view diagram pdf. The diagram shows a sprocket.
