Postwar Lionel smoke unit upgrade?

I recently put in an order for some parts I needed to finish up a couple projects. With an $8.00 shipping charge, I needed to make it worth my while. Browsing through the Greenberg’s Repair and Operating Manual for Lionel Trains, Decided to order a few 2026-44 smoke generator springs. What a difference they make! Smoke output is stronger, and the it quiets down the “tink-tink-tink…” quite a bit. Adding the spring requires no modification to the smoke unit, and really does seem to make a difference in smoke output. Next time you need to order parts, consider adding a couple of these to your list.

Those springs will work with any of the postwar piston style smoke units!

Every smoke unit I have rebuilt gets the spring added to it.

Really quiets the noise down especially in the 671/681/2020 engine. These always seemed to be the noisest ones!
