I would never answer that question here or elsewhere fully on social media. You are never going to communicate your own experience or background on social media to everyones satisfaction and in most cases they will never believe you anyway because they never met you. So it is a waste of time.
Also, you have some who try and figure out your real name and location via the internet. Once that is learned in some limited cases you can expect a call to your employer about your social media comments when they get upset.
Also someones verbal or posted background is rarely a measure of competence you have to still observe the persons work output or evaluate what they write so it is largely not relevant to begin with for a discussion forum.
Roger Lewis was CEO of General Dynamics in the go-go years from 1962 to 1970, and was specifically put in charge of Amtrak to shake up any hidebound thinking that contributed to the death of the American passenger train.
Not too long ago they hired WisDOT’s very competent Rail Manager. I think he went into Amtrak Network Management and last I heard he was involved in bringing the New Orleans to Mobile service to fruition. Amtrak has this uncanny ability to burn good people out and frustrate them. I am curious how long he lasts before he decides Amtrak is not worth it. We’ll see.
Not answer fully but general experience seems fair and safe. That’s what many members have done, you and myself included. Some/all of the railroaders gave pretty full bios.
I think Amtrak is tough on many former private railroaders. Who was the guy from B&O passenger who later was at Amtrak? Trains ran an article on him years ago. Paul Reistrup?
Remember that video I posted a while back, Former Amtrak President in 2000 I think. Started getting very emotional while recollecting working for Amtrak and all the impossible challenges at once and the toll it took on him and his family. Fairly obvious why he departed…had his fill of all the micromanagement. from Congress, to the public (railfans in part), Some of the upper management and other railroad peers.
Sorry Charlie, he has an EXTENSIVE and self proclaimed background and is of course an expert we should all listen to…NOT. Please excuse this feeble attempt at sarcasm.
As for Backshop, I don’t mean to be cruel and unkind in my remarks. Considering the plethora of comments by other posters who share my view, I offer this sarcasm as a hint that maybe the view you hold might be too extreme. Just sayin’ regards all mike endmrw0627251313
Harold, this is a GREAT story. And it just shows how to do business. Amen?
Too many elites can not POSSIBLY be humble and gracious hosts. The elites are too good for that.
Praise the Lord for humble folks who are sitting in seats of power/influence. Speaking of “them there kinda folks”. JB Hunt got started LITTLE time hauling rice hulls, at the time nobody thought worthwhile. Just goes to show. He knows where he came from and is humble thus truly appreciates recognition. mike endmrw0627251319
Bob, BGC? Surely you did not mean Bad Girls Club. LOL
Before this thread gets closed. Reason = We’re going in circles instead of new ideas. I would have sent a PM (to you Bob), but there are too many watching this tit for tat chat.
I noticed BGC is an investment firm. These guys talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. i.e. If their advise turns out bad, the INVESTOR, following advise, MAKE the decision to buy.
Reminds me of a former CN. (Connecuit) governor who duped a bunch of big farmers and the farmers lost their investment. The governor, no crime. Lots of $$$$$$ disappeared in the deal. Who decided to invest? INVESTORS.
RR’s are RUN (decision making) by CEO’s and associates. With marketing department (note Jeff’s comment about poor departments there) and accounting working together (nix the “silo way” of operating departments) good info flows to decision makers. I know, I know: Mike, REAL world doesn’t work that way. Good profitable business do. Let’s all be kind. mike endmrw0627251342
In this the ‘cash cow’ is low growth, but high market share; there’s plenty of revenue to ‘milk’ but if you take my meaning, not as much as if you grew your herd in size or cultivated new customers… or new uses… for your milk.
Stars are high market share and high growth. Union Pacific in this artificially-simplified model is actually a dog, one which seems to enjoy scratching for fleas, humping various regulatory legs, and eating its own throw periodically.
Good research, and the FACTS of the matter. The observations by those that are there and present day is telling. We are not talking about old attitudes, you found out about NOW. Kudos endmrw0627251541
