"Potter" puts model trains back on track

Here is an article from Yahoo News regarding the “increase” in popularity of model railroading due to movies such as the Polar Express and the Harry Potter movies.

Enjoy!

The Polar Express is a given, but what does Harry Potter have to do with model trains? I thought he was into playing quidditch…

The Hogwarts express… departing from Platform 9 3/4…

That’s what originally brought Spacemouse into the hobby: Building a hogwarts express for his then-7yr-old son, the rest is history…

Let’s hope its not a passing fad like when every kid wanted Star War figures, light sabers or a DeLorean car model.

Of couse it is Not a passing fad. We are still boys who play with trains. I was 9 years old and I started in 1950 with a single loop. I had Lionel 027. I still put a loop around the Christmas tree with Marx 027. Down in the cellar are the more expensive HO with DCC and a lot more track. It is still playing with trains. Times have not changed.

If you think otherwise you are in danger of becoming a nit picking old grouch.

“in danger of becoming a nit picking old grouch”

LOL! I resemble that remark at times.[swg]

Well,my son was raise around model railroading and he has zero interest but had a large collection of Star War figures when he was a kid.I have 2 Grandsons…One became quite the modeler and the other could care less.My Daughter collects Chessie memorabilia.

With that said I still hope its not a passing fad or if it is a passing fad I hope the memory takes root as a hobby later on.

Star Wars toys are STILL one of the hottest selling brands out there. The original movie came out 31 years ago and there are STILL Luke Skywalker dolls (err…“action figures”) on the shelves.

We can only hope that model railroading has that sort of staying power after Harry Potter…

Hello Don’t forget about Thomas. Hes been around for 60 years. And my 4 year old loves him and the gang. She run her trains at least 3 times a week and then we run mine.I would say model railroading will be here for a long tmie to come.[:)]Frank
