Power Brick?

OK this will sound a little like Andy Rooney.

Why is it called a power brick?

Sometimes a power block? Are they the same or different?

Powered truck? Is that something all together different?

We do deal with some strange words in this hobby.[:-^]

As far as I know they’re all pretty much the same. The only difference I can think of is that a power brick and block could just mean the motor assembly with gears and a powered truck would have the wheels attached.

Power brick and power block, are to me the same thing. A powered unit with drive wheels that will run on track. Power truck on the other hand might mean a truck unit that is powered with wheels and all, or not. An example of a power truck that is NOT powered are the units available for the Bachmann Shay. They are called power trucks, because they incorperate the wheels and the drive mechanisim, but not the motor.

Believe it or not guys, I’ve also heard the term applied to a throttless transformer TOO !!! Such as the “Power Bricks” that Bridgwerks puts out, used to just apply constant power to a layout. I am planning to use such a system along with Loco-Linc RC control on my layout. Byron
