Somebody tell me what power pack to replace my Hogger with
MRC Tech 4
Ditto. MRC are the best out there.
Tom
Might be the time to switch to DCC?
If all your favorite locos can be converted to DCC, then now is the time to search for a DCC system.
If you are like me, and have a bunch of old school locos you still want to run, and converting them is too hard, get a MRC Tech 3. The voltmeter and amp meter are handy.
I’ll vote for MRC too.
MRC for DC all the way.
DCC to run trains, not switches!
If you are only going to run one engine on a small layout 12VA (watt’s) will do the job., and any Tech IV should do. Lash-up’s need more. older Athearn’s run .5 - 1amp each.
The only MRC currently offered with meter’s is their 9500. It also offer’s 30VA (2.5a @12 volt’s), and will likely never need replacing.

You can pay more and get less.
Why not use two MRCs, they work great and I have a small layout, so lots of power is available. And if you use two transformers, just a note…use one dedicated to DC !!! and the other, which can of a lower rating for AC !!! only to run accessories, i.e. switch motors.
Best of luck and keep on track…

Being DC, I use a pair of MRC’s 9500 series.
The built in meters clue me as to the start off voltage for
my Sound(DC) and other eratic electrical problems.
Simple no brainer---------- MRC. Ain’t it nice we all agree on somethin!!!
MRC all the way!
It’s worth saving up the extra money and get the Tech 4 series. A sure winner.
MRC Tech 4. Got one and have never looked back. Truely a great power pack.
