Power pick-up kit for P2K 0-8-0 tender

Is anyone else interested in Walthers making a power pick-up kit for the older P2K 0-8-0 tenders? I talked with Walthers about making a power pick-up kit available for the older 0-8-0 tenders and they said if there was enough interest they would do it. If your interested please leave a reply to this message and I’ll forward it to Walthers.

I was going to add tender pick-up to mine, but it’s been very reliable without it (or the flywheel).

I’ve put Tsunamis in mine and they sometimes cut out over my switches, where-as my 0-6-0’s don’t have any problems. Great pic by the way. Is that a switching layout?

I used the pickups off a Spectrum 4-6-0, it was very easy. I used the very fine wire off an old computer mouse cable, soldered them to the wipers and up into the tender.

You can buy them here.

It now runs like a dream, it use to stall on on every dead frog.

I had been in contact with Life-Like about this. I had even compiled a list of the parts that would be needed from the then new 0-6-0 to make said conversion kit. I believe I need 6 or 7 of them. Then Walther’s bought Life_Like and everything went to double tooth picks. The Walthers people I finally got in touch with said all the parts were all mixed up and or lost in the warehouse. I called about 6 months later and they didnt even want to talk about it. I never got my replacement motors for the PA’s (ones that spike to 3 Amps on start up) that Life-Like was going to replace for free either. I really miss the customer service Like-Like provided on the Proto series.

Yes, I’m interested. I was going to buy the brass pieces that are use on the 0-6-0 tender which uses the same trucks, but I haven’t actually contacted Walthers to purchase them. I guess you’re saying they’re not available?

Thanks for the kind words, strider. [:)]

Not a switching layout, but an urban area of an around-the-room type layout. It’s meant to operate as a point-to-point, with most trains doing en route switching in the towns through which they pass.

Here’s a somewhat wider view of part of the same area as shown in the previous photo:

I’ve had to deal with Walthers a number of times on a number of differant issues and they’ve always been top-notch with me. They get back quickly and have always taken care of whatever problem I’ve had. I’m sorry to here you’ve had problems dealing with them.

Doctorwayne, layout looks fantastic, please post more pics. I’m doing an industrial switching layout and i’m always interested in simular layouts.

Geared Steam, thanks for the pics, I’m going to add them to mine. I’d prefer all wheels picking up power but two on each side will be a definite improvement.
