power problem?

i am a tech director for theater and i have a show coming in that has a ho train that is suppose to travel around the stage. the director has not had much success getting his effect to work. this is what i know…i will be laying 120 ft. of track around my stage… i feel there has to be a correct and incorrect way of getting proper power to all that track…can anyone help?.

The problem would be in the rail joints. The best way is to solder the joints or solder jumper wires to each section. also use flex nickel silver track. The nickel silver will not corode & stop electric flow. The flex track is longer so not that many joints to worry about. Run at least 2 sets of feeder wires to the track,making sure that the wires from each terminal go to the same rail. lastly get a power pack that is powerful enough for what you are running. Error on the plus side.

Are you sure the audience will even be able to see an HO train? One of the larger gauges would be far more visible, particularly from the nosebleed section where cheap guys like me always end up sitting. The larger gauges are also less prone to derailment.

You might be able to get a local dealer to loan you some trains and / or track in exchange for mention in the printed program. Or, there may be a local store that has a Christmas display that’s currently in storage, and they might let you borrow it.
