Power Suply Issues with Digitrax Zephyr.

I have some questions i would like to ask you guys.
I bought a used Digitrax Zephyr, without a power suply (no LT1 Decoder and LocoNet Cable Tester either). what troubles me is that on the back of the zephyr box the power input reads “power in 15VAC 2.5 Amps”, now somewhere i read that it can also operate with DC power suply? What kind of Electrical current do the American Diesel model engines use DC or AC ,because in Europe we have Marklin which on one hand is AC(3 rail system) while Trix and Roco is DC (actually Roco has some AC Models too).
Will the Zephyr tranform the Electrical current to whatever is apropriate to run the Locos?
I have spent a great deal of money getting DCC and sound equipped Locos(2 atlas, 1 Athearn, 1 BLI) I feel i made a Big mistake and i don’t have the tracks yet to test them on(they are on their way). Please help

I think you are probably interested in 2-rail HO, which is the same here as in Europe, that is, 12 volts DC. However, this forum (Classic Toy Trains) concerns mostly toy trains, 3-rail O-gauge and 2-rail S-gauge. You will probably get better answers on the Model Railroader Magazine forum. Good luck.

Yes the Zephyr puts out an effective 12V DC on the tracks. Of course it is not true DC as the DCC signal is riding on top of it.

A really good place to go is the Digitrax tech depot, where you can pose the question. Which is what I did and think this gives you the answer you need.

For what it is worth, you would get more of a response on the DCC section of the MRR part of the forum.
