powermaster seems dead

my layout is 2 seperately powered loops. the outer loop is controled by a command base operating my tmcc stuff and the inner is connected to a powermaster base to run my PW stuff with the Cab1 remote. both get their power fron a PW ZW. while running today the inner loop (powermaster) stopped responding to the Cab1[:O]. the green light is on but when pressing buttons on the Cab1 the blinking red light won’t blink. the command base works fine, so I think the remote is good. I was running the inner loop and all was fine, I backed into a siding and then switched to the outer loop to run that for a while. when I switched back to “track” on the remote there was no response. did it just die like that[?]

Power everything down & unplug the Command Base.

Switch the PowerMaster to “Program”

Power up everything except the command base and your command locos.

Enter >TR >1(or your choice) >Set on Cab-1.

Switch the PowerMaster to “Run”.

Enter >TR >1(or your choice) on Cab-1 & try to bring up power on that track.

If that does not work, power down & try again later, also make sure the radio crystal is securely seated on the PowerMaster.

Had a similar one at work yesterday. The demo layout worked fine all day, around 5 pm went to run it for a customer turned on the power, new style ZW, and the Hogswart Xp took off with out addressing anything. Luckily the cars are enough of a drag that it stayed on the track. No blinking red light on the ZW and none on the base. I used two different CAB-1’s so that shouldn’t have been the problem. My guess is the transformer for the base may be dead, it didn’t feel warm like the small transformers usually do. Since I don’t know how the owner has it all wired I left him a note to check it out Monday. If its anything that could be usefull to the forum I’ll be sure to let y’all know.

If the red light isn’t blinking in response to CAB 1 commands either the unit has lost it’s address, the CAB-1’s batteries may not be strong enough to communicate, the crystal has wriggled loose in the PM (per Rob’s suggestion), or it is actually dead.

hi guys, just got back from a trip to the movies with my son. I will try your suggestions and will post the results. thanks.

reprogramming did it, thanks to all.

Sometimes they hiccup.

I’m glad you got it going again.

The only PowerMaster failure I’ve had(I have 8 or 10 of them - not sure) was on a piece bought on eBay. There was something rattling around inside & it was DOA. They exchanged it quickly and it all worked out.
