hello to all reading this; could anybody please help me out? I am trying to find some numbers for centerflow hoppers marked PPG Hi-Sil; I am also looking for tank cars that are used for xylene including any colours it is. I’m trying to model a paint factory and it requires xylene.

Thank you but unfortunately they are all caustic soda or chlorine tankers. Unfortunatly not to many people have pictures of them as far as I know. Does anybody know where thease hoppers go to or come from? I know I have seen them on an NS train on a video but it was shot on a bad angle for me to get a look at the reporting marks and the numbers.

Did a Google search. Why not send a polite letter to Customer Service at the Silica department at the address at the bottom of the Web page I’ve pasted:

Tell them what you want to do and ask if they have any publicity still photos they can send you. All you can lose is the postage. Don’t have an answer on the xylene, but think there might be a photo at one of the many rail photo sites. What companies produce xylene ?

I will try that thank you. I found a bunch of xylene makers-Coastal Petrochemical, Imperial Oil, Nova Chemicals, Petro Canada Chemicals, Shell Chemical, and Sunoco.
I contacted a friend who works for PPG in Customer Service with the original question. I’ll post her answer if it’s pertinent. Most like her first response will be “WTF?!”
My contact e-mailed me back. She says she can get that information.

Her husband likes trains (but doesn’t have any) and HIS uncle fixes trains at a shop near Sacramento (he’s in his 70s or 80s and works 7 days a week - because he’s like it). She understands these things…I think.
