I probably asked this question before but I can’t remember the answers. From your experience (aside from the cost) is it worth replacing the 153C Contactors with 153IR Controllers? As always, many thanks for your input.
The 153IR does not require track to be able to move up and down with the weight of the train. Ambient light sometimes fools the 153IR, however. For me, the answer was yes.
If cost is not a factor, the new ones will not have to be reajusted all the time.
For many purposes (including operating a 153 signal), there are simple low-tech ways using only an isolated control rail to do what the 153C does.
You might also check out the Z-stuff line (http://www.z-stuff.net/index.html). They have some IR detectors that are cheaper than the 153IR, and have been reported favorably.
Thanks guys.
