Wonderful sound at slow speed; at higher speed the sound seemed to fade off a bit. The whistle and bell both sounded good, and the detail is wonderful.

Read the review of this loco in the Dec. MODEL RAILROADER. This appears to be an excellent product. However, it is a little pricy for the average modeler. Wish they could keep the price down.
The whistle sounds more fitting to a D&RGW K-36… The exhaust is nice though…
Interesting, but Lionel and MTH have had great sound systems in their O gauge locomotives for a decade. HO is playing catch up, again.
I’ve seen and heard both the Athearn and PCM Big Boys in person and as you can tell from these videos, the PCM model sounds far better than the Athearn model in all respects.
The Chuff sound at speed is a little disappointing. I was hoping for a little lower sounding whistle as well. I hope my on reserve N Scale M1B sound is closer to realistic.
Excellent steam sound, much better than the Athearn model. I like the air ringer bell. Very impressive, smoothe running.
It sounds great I have seen and heard UP’s 3985 and this is the same deep sound. Great job.
Have to say the sound is better on PCM than Athearn. Unfortunately, against PCM is their quality issues. My local shop keeper has had to send back all of his PCM orders because the models are put together shoddy, and the sound cards have come in ranges of bad speakers to no sound period. Athearn does have a better rep and price, so I’ve got to go with Athearn. That and the model coming out with the Elephant ears is too good to pass up.
I’ve seen this baby close up and personal. So much so that the exaust bangs you in the chest. This is a great replica and great sound.

The sound is much closer to the real loco. Very relistic as loco pulled into station.

I have just received the 4024 big boy and could not be happier with the model. It runs great and the sound is excellent.
