Is there anyone besides Sievers Benchwork that sells precut benchwork. I would like to compare prices to at least one other company before I order from Sievers.
Also if anyone has ordered from Sievers and has had a bad or good experience I would like to know.
Some years ago I helped a fellow with a fairly large layout built using the Sievers product. There were no problems with it and it appeared to me to be a good product.
My layout is modular sections similar to the Sievers Benchwork, however I have my lumber yard cut quality 3/4" plywood into 3.5" strips giving me lots of straight quality 1x4 lumber. My modular sections are either 4’ or 6’ long and 18" or 24" wide. I precut the modular pieces and then construct the modular sections. I make the legs out of 2x2 lumber and use 2x2 blocks to renforce the corners of the modules. I assemble the modules with yellow carpenters glue and drywall screws.
I have constructed modular layouts in two apartments and two homes using this method. My only power tools required for construction are a 14.4 volt Sears Drill and Circular Trim Saw.
I saw a thread here a few months ago about this very subject. If you do a search I am confident that you will see some examples. If you have the resources but not the time then I would use this also.
I have a 14 x 16 rectangle layout with a center yard all built from Sievers benchwork. They do consistent top quality work. It was easy to assemble, you usually get more screws than you need and they are very good to work with. I had the create a couple of custom pieces and they were exactly what I needed at a reasonable price.
