Glad to have found this forum. I have been in and out of this hobby for fifty years I would say if you count when I got my first Lionel set. This time its been fifteen years and I am amazed that many of my locos will hardly turn a wheel at this point. With all the changes in the industry and the hobby I wonder if there are new and better things to be used? Just for information, While I am still in the planning stages I have a finished room sixteen feet by fourty feet so no matter what I start with there is room to grow. Thanks for any input you might have
One word - LaBelle!! They make a kit with all their lubricants in it so no matter what needs oiling/greasing/etc, you got it!![:)]
Castrol Dexron II or III automatic transmission fluid. For steamers that is, and only on the rods, gear, and axles. I believe that the gears need just a thin covering of white grease…probably Hobby Lube or Labelle’s. For diesels, ATF on the axles.
Greases will dry up as the volatiles evaporate. ATF seems to last forever. What you have left in the bottom of an emptied container in your garage refuse should be enough to do 10-15 engines at least once.
