Preformed molded layouts

Has anyone used the hard shell (styrene) preformed molded layouts? I notice that “Terrain for Trains” has some for HO and N scales.

The HO one “Timber Ridge” comes in 4 sections and are offered painted or unpainted. You get the hills etc molded in place. You lay the track and install the bridges and you are off to a good start. I know it can be thought of as a lazy way to start a new layout but for some people time can be short. and this will get you at least started on the right “track”

For some people, building the benchwork is fun. For those who don’t really enjoy it, the premoulded layouts are fine.

It’s kinda funny–I had one of these 25+ years ago. Made of the white styrofoam. Simple design, came in very garish color–think of a 4x6 version of one of those pre-made plastic tunnels you can plop onto a loop of track.

Then the concept disappeared.

Now, it’s back!
