Now that I have decided to use a solvent based paint for my caboose I am wondering if I should leave on the lacquer fini***hat the manufacturer coats the model with or strip it off. I’ve had two different people tell me differemt things. Also if I need to strip it off what is the best way to do this.
On untarnished brass, all I ever did was make sure ALL the plastic components are off the model, and soak in laquer thinner overnight. A light swipe with a brush should get off anything that doesn’t belong. Blow it off with an air hose, and let fly.
If it’s tarnished, a little Brasso will cure it, or some of that no rub dip stuff they sell for silverware, then wash with the lacquer thinner.
