Previous weekend in Germany - building model cars

Hi all,

I just updated my website with a story on some fantastic modeling stuff I had a chance to be part of in Germany last weekend. I have long been interested in running cars on the streets of my layout and I have been looking for technologies needed. Last week, I attended a two days workshop, where one of the companies making the stuff was showing everything and helping modelers to build their own models with their technology. The hyperlink on the bottom will take you to more pictures and videos.

Sveiki!

Khm, sveiki, sveiki! Do you speak Latvian or just Sveiki? /Edmunds

Just Sveiki. My GF is always asking the crews on English-speaking cruise ships how they say hello in their home languages. There has been a dramatic increase of eastern European crew members in recent years (increasing from none to many).

Hi Edmunds, As you say, " The Faller Car System basic cars, trucks, and buses are great, (except there is no way to control their action ). I happen to be changing 35 ft. of my HO scale roads, to accommodate about eight of the Faller cars, trucks, and bus, (with electronics to turn off roadway at bus station, stop, then return to main roadway) Other than that, one has no control of the speed of the Faller Car System cars. I, immediately, went to the EuroRailHobbies.com website to purchase the electronics to remotely run the cars, truck, and bus.Their prices seem to be expensive, yet less than the $1400 I paid for my present eight cars, trucks, and bus. (purchased over the last two years). I had an old set of Slot Car track, that i was about to throw out. Then, it dawned on me that I could glue heavy plastic coated steel wire in the two slots (with about 1/32 inch of the top of the plastic covered wire, above the surface. I glued loops of the wire, (on a Luan base), at each end of the opposed roadway “dogbone”, so that the Faller Car system fleet, went from the right slot to return on the right side, in the opposite direction. I used a thin film of Hydrocal plaster to cover the roadway (level with the top of the two wires). Then, I sprayed the roadway with flat light weathered gray, and installed Decal road stripes, to make the roads realistic in appearance. What is neat about this is the the wire merely guides the Faller cars, and is not a DC conductor. I screwed the straight and curved section of Slot Car track (with slots aligned,) Then, I cut the wire into 18inch pieces , and glued it into slots or across Luan. then used plaster, spray paint and installed decal stripes, to make a fairly realistic appearing roadway. Now, I am anxious to purchase the remote control devices, to control my fleet of cars. Thanks for suggesting the EuroRailHobbies.com. When I scrape together enough cash, I will be their customer.
