Does anyone know if this car came with a load? Barrels maybe?
I really don’t know but I have never seen it offer with any load that I would even think was part of it ( ie a matchbox car or something like that ) but saying that doesn’t mean it didn’t.
Lionel Trains: Standard of the World 1900-1943 does not list any load for that car.

Thank you for checking.
Working from my Lionel Catalogs, in the 1934 & 1935 the 1677 gondola is a “Lionel Jr” in blue paint, no load. The 1677 is not shown or listed in the 1936 to 1939 Catalogs. In 1940 & 1941 the 1677 Gondola reappeared in sets and as a separate sale item, it is pictured with a Barrel Load.
The 1942 Catalog on page 18 lists: "No.1677- Gondola car with four barrels Price $1.00 "
According to Greenberg’s price guide it was made in 1933 to 35, and again in 1939 to 42. Light blue is Ives, blue or red is Lionel. Greenberg’s doesn’t mention anything about any barrels or anything else with it.
